BW2: 2022 Gorgeous Garden Photo Contest
Posted in Bush Whacker 2.

Hi Whackers!

The Gorgeous Garden Contest is now underway!

We want to see YOUR talented, artistic skills at gardening/art. It's super easy to get started, just start growing plants. When you've got enough, you can begin to lay out your designs in the event area. Once you've managed to get at least a D from each of the judges, you're golden for entering the contest!

How the Contest Works

When you're ready, talk to the photographer (he's got a yellow ! above his head) and have him take a picture of your fantasy garden. You can submit as many times as you would like, but only your most recent submission will get the votes. Each time you do submit a screenshot, your votes will reset to make it fair for everyone, so plan carefully! Submissions will be accepted until *Wednesday, June 1st, 2022, - Noon PDT.*

You Get to Vote!

YOU get to vote too! The coveted 'User's Choice' award is picked by the Bush Whacker Community, and has a prize of 50 Bush Bucks! You can vote for as many submissions as you like, and at the end of the event the top submission as voted by YOU the players will be awarded the prize.

Notes about Voting!
  • Asking to visit the contest or the voting page no longer takes you outside the game; it simply loads the contest/voting page over top it! Finished voting? You can easily return to the event area by clicking "Back to Game" at the bottom of the screen. Easy as pie!

  • Can't decide between two layouts? That’s ok! You now have a way to say "Next Please," and two new images will be loaded up for you!

  • Tired of seeing the same layouts previously? We've improved the system, you should see the same layouts repeated far more infrequently now.

You can vote until *Wednesday, June 1st, 2022 @ Noon PDT.*

And the CNE winners are...

At the end of the event, the entire Codename Entertainment Studio will review the submissions and choose their favourites, with 3 lucky players per platform being awarded prizes of 250, 200, and 150 Bush Bucks for first, second and third. All winners will be published in the blog when we've made our decision.

Idle Champions: The Running 5
Posted in Idle Champions.

A young elven wizard is on a pilgrimage to the Grandfather Tree, and she has hired the Champions to escort her. The wizard has foreseen an acorn falling from the tree - an extraordinary and truly rare occurrence - and she hopes to collect the holy relic to take to Silverymoon.

Yet as the party ventures forth, the very forest itself resists them, while elves from the Feywild and the Underdark seek to claim the acorn for themselves!

The Running 5 introduces Dungeon Master, the human wizard from the 1980s Dungeons & Dragons cartoon, and brings back Shaka, the Tiefling Warlock, and Krydle, the Half-Elf Rogue. Players have until Monday, May 9th at 12PM Pacific to complete The Running 5 unlocks and objectives.

New Champion: Dungeon Master

Dungeons & Dragons Dungeon Master

He is Dungeon Master, your guide in the realm of Dungeons & Dragons! Don't let his short stature and befuddling riddles fool you, this magical master controls the strange forces at work during any adventure.

Dungeon Master is a Support, Healing, and Gold Find Champion who is always eligible for an adventure, though he may leave you with a frightened Uni for a few areas. He enjoys mentoring younger Champions, and helps everyone be their ultimate best! When you want to add him to your formation you can swap him with Asharra (Slot 6)

For more information on Dungeon Master and his abilities, check out his Champion Spotlight!

Localization Wide Release

In addition to Dungeon Master's release, April 27th is also the wide release of our first round of localization for the game! We've localized the game into French, German, Brazilian Portuguese, Latin American Spanish, and Simplified Chinese and are excited to welcome a more global audience into Idle Champions!

  • It's Tiamat, the Dragon! — Tiamat, the Dragon has arrived to thwart your quest for a mystical and rare acorn! Champions will only regain half their max hit points when changing areas, but Dungeon Master joins your formation with his Words of Encouragement.

    Idle Champion Spotlight: Dungeon Master
    Posted in Idle Champions.

After five years of Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms, we have reached an auspicious occasion, our 100th Champion! There have been so many iconic characters from Dungeons & Dragons lore, novels, campaigns, and shows, who have joined our Champion roster, it was difficult to think of an extra special character that could take on the mantle of 100th Champion. The only choice was to not choose a player character after all, but the Dungeon Master!

Dungeon Master is the powerful, enigmatic, patient, and mysterious Champion who is always happy to help the formation. He may be a busy guy who can't always come along to every area, but he's powerful enough to make sure the formation is never without assistance. After all, he's the DM; he can make his own rules!

    I. Dungeon Master

    III. Dungeon Master's Design

For many of the CNE team, the 1983 animated television series Dungeons & Dragons was an entry point into the world of D&D. Watching those six friends on their adventures was the impetus to try out the game that inspired the show. As the team mulled over all of the classic characters available to turn into the 100th Champion, they knew it had to be something extra special. The idea of paying homage to that original cartoon, as well as the important role the DM plays in guiding our own adventures, was the perfect love letter to the hobby that we all enjoy!

You can see more excitement over this classical 1980s D&D cartoon character coming to Idle Champions in this IGN Article!

Learning and helping others are the two most important traits that Dungeon Master tries to impart to all his party members. He enjoys mentoring younger Champions, and buffs everyone as he teaches With Patience, Young Ones! If he's around when you transition into an area, Dungeon Master offers Words of Encouragement that grant temporary hit points. But he often pulls a Disappearing Act as he must leave the formation for other important matters. When that happens, the adorable but nervous Uni the Unicorn fills his spot and helps increase the team's gold find. Finally, because he's the DM and can make his own rules, Dungeon Master is eligible to start in all adventures, even if a restriction would say otherwise!

Dungeon Master's Specializations show off some of his unique powers. Special Guest Star allows him to bring a Champion along with him into the formation, even if that Champion was ineligible due to adventure restrictions. Where Did He Go This Time? and Fear Not, Champions! offers you a bit of control over how often Dungeon Master leaves the formation, granting an additional bonus to his buffs when the weighted choice occurs. His mighty, magical abilities culminate in his Ultimate Attack, Invigorate, which immediately recharges the Ultimate ability of another Champion who has the longest to wait!

    IV. Dungeon Master's Abilities

    Basic Attack

    • Magic Missile — Dungeon Master raises his hands, and 1 or more white rays strike a random enemy.

    Formation Abilities

    • Patience, Young Ones! — Dungeon Master increases the damage of all Champions by +100% for each Champion in the formation that is 20 years or younger, stacking multiplicatively. If the sum of the six youngest Champions' ages is 100 years or less, the bonus is increased by 400%. This effect applies even if Dungeon Master is "away" due to Disappearing Act.
    • Words of Encouragement — Dungeon Master adds 50 temporary hit points to the entire party upon entering an area when Dungeon Master is present.
    • Disappearing Act — Upon entering a new area, there is a 50% chance that Dungeon Master does not appear in the formation and is replaced by a frightened Uni the Unicorn. While Dungeon Master is away, the formation's gold find is increased by +100%. If you return to a previously completed area, Dungeon Master is always with the formation.
    • Dungeon Master Rules — Dungeon Master is eligible to start in all adventures, even if the Patron, Variant, or other restrictions would say otherwise.

    Specializations

    • Special Guest Star — Dungeon Master uses his powers to plane shift in one random Champion that is normally not eligible for the adventure. If there are any bench seats with no eligible Champions, an ineligible Champion from those seats is always chosen. Otherwise an ineligible champion from a random seat is chosen. The Champion can not be from Dungeon Master's seat.
    • Where Did He Go This Time? — The chance Dungeon Master doesn't join the formation in Disappearing Act is increased to 75%, and gold find amount is also increased by +100%
    • Fear Not, Champions! — The chance Dungeon Master doesn't join the formation in Disappearing Act is decreased to 25%, and the temporary hit points gained by Words of Encouragement are increased by +100%.

    Ultimate Ability

    • Invigorate — Dungeon Master waves his hands, and the Ultimate ability with the longest remaining cooldown immediately recharges. The cooldown for this Ultimate is set to the time the recharged Ultimate had left. Dungeon Master increases the damage of all Champions in the formation by +400% for half of the time his Ultimate is cooling down.

    V. Dungeon Master’s Equipment

    Slot 1: Global DPS
    Slot 2: Global DPS
    Slot 3: Patience, Young Ones!
    Slot 4: Words of Encouragement
    Slot 5: Disappearing Act
    Slot 6: Invigorate

    VI. Conclusion

It's thanks to you, our community, that we've been able to make this game for 5 years and 100 Champions! We hope that you have a fantastic time using Dungeon Master in new and fun ways in your formation, and that he brings a nostalgic smile to your face when he appears.

What do you think about Dungeon Master? And who would you like to see join the formation in the next 100 Champions? If you have feedback, let us know in a Community Q&A or Champion feedback post on the Idle Champions Subreddit, on the Steam forums, or on the Official Idle Champions Discord!

    BW2: 2022 St. Patrick's Celebration!
    Posted in Bush Whacker 2.

    Happy St. Patrick’s Day Bushwhackers!

The Commons is greener than usual! That’s because the Commons Party Planning Committee is putting on a St. Patrick’s day party!

Unfortunately, the guests of honour seem to have gotten lost in the bushes. Go whack them up and help them find their way to the Event Area!

There are eight Leprechauns to whack up that will help you put on a rocking St. Patrick’s Day party! Every day the event goes on, the odds to whack them up gets larger, so you can get them all before it ends. Three of them will have turn-in stations for you to do and the others will have repeatable quests for you to do for event progress.

Unlocking throughout the event are previous year quest lines:

Mr. Keith is looking to put out his special brew again. Help him find the ingredients.

Alec Guiness is whipping up another strange Patty's craft brew to show up Mr. Keith's own beer. Help gather his unusual ingredients.

Seamus is in the mood to do some whacking of his own, but first he needs your help to make the perfect shillelagh.

Siobhan is throwing her version of an Irish Feast...but the dishes got lost in the bushes. Go find them for her!

Those poor snakes are tired of being whacked so often. Help their leader out by setting up his snake relocation program efforts.

Help Bree learn about Irish mythology!

A red Leprechaun up on the Rainbow's End Island might need your help at some point.

    FAQ

    What are the different leprechauns?
You can whack up two types of leprechauns: hatted and non-hatted.
    • There are 8 hatted ones to find, 3 will unlock turn-in stations, and the other 5 will give you daily quests. You must manually whack these ones to capture them.

    • The non-hatted ones will drop items for you to turn into the turn-in stations. You can quick whack and mana whack non-hatted leprechauns when they appear if you wish. The non-hatted leprechauns will *always* drop some turn-in items, rather than just having a chance to.

How can I find the leprechauns?
Just keep whacking. You could whack them all up in a day if you wanted to. The odds to whack up hatted leprechauns will increase as the event goes on.

What adds to my event progress?
Turning in items to the Gold, Beer and Clover stations, and doing quests for folks in the event area.

Do I have to do the achievements?
No. Completing the goals for the achievements is totally optional. You get either a large energy pack or a title for your character from them, no event progress.

Where can I see all the achievements available and how to get them?
Either on the holiday dialog, the achievements dialog, or on the blog.

Why should I ask for friends to help boost turn-ins?
It increases the amount of progress you get from doing a turn-in.

Idle Champions: Festival of Fools 5
    Posted in Idle Champions.

How far would you go to celebrate foolishness?

Festival of Fools is a time-honored tradition in Sword Coast communities. Townsfolk engage in the usual gluttonous consumption of food and drink during the festivities, but they also play pranks on each other.

Unfortunately, one prankster has decided to play a practical joke on a Frost Giant nearby...

Festival of Fools 5 introduces Tatyana, the Air Genasi Barbarian Druid played by Becca Scott on The Black Dice Society. Festival of Fools also brings back Alyndra Sarrbarand, Divination Wizard and Cleric of Oghma and Briv Steelmarrow, Half-Orc Paladin (Oath of Heroism). Players have until Monday, March 21st at 12 PM Pacific to complete their Festival of Fools 5 unlocks and objectives.

    I. Tatyana

Dungeons & Dragons Tatyana Key Art
This toweringly tall air-genasi barbarian earned her skills and power in the gladiatorial fighting pits of Koshmarr. Tatyana augmented her rage with the might of the bear totem, and the spirits of the mist connected her to the natural druidic world through the power of the moon. Her fearsome and deadly battle prowess is tempered by a respect for anyone who would return that respect. She is curious and bold, and while she's quick to jump into battle she's just as swift with her forgiveness.

Tatyana is a Tanking, Support, and Speed Champion who is faithful and protective of her friends and allies. When you want to add her to your formation you can swap her with Delina in slot 8.

    III. Tatyana's Design

Most of the Idle Champions community will recognize Becca Scott from her work on The Black Dice Society, Geek & Sundry, Dimension 20, and many other TTRPG shows and streams. But her work also includes a huge library of content as an actor, host, interviewer, podcaster, voice-over artist, and streamer! Plus she is the co-founder of the channel and production company Good Time Society.

The core of Tatyana's design focuses on how she channels her Fury and Rage into keeping her friends safe. She'll become a Faithful Friend to a random slot in the middle of the formation, encouraging that Champion to do more damage. As she tanks incoming attacks her Rising Fury will grow, gaining stacks of Fury that increase the effect of Faithful Friend. Eventually her Fury turns to Rage, and with bulging muscles and nasty claws she'll stop attacking with her Twin Kukri Strike and instead rely on her Primal Savagery to bite and claw at enemies! When there aren't enemies around to fight, she'll become distracted, heading off to Find a Feast and causing a few enemies to spawn and follow her back to her companions.

Hermit is always extra excited at this time of year, though this year even he is surprised at how quickly it came!

As St. Patrick's Day approaches, the Washed-Up Hermit triples his efforts to provide the latest Premature Party, drawing the attention of a being ancient and wise. Inviting himself to this year's soiree is Farmer Brown!

    It's time for Hermit's Premature Party 7!

New Tier 7 Crusader: Farmer Brown

Tags: Event, Male, Human, Flora, Support, Gold, Magical, Angel

Farmer Brown was a very fine farmer. He watched over his fields, tending them with attentiveness, rotating fields every few years, rotating the crops in those fields, even reading them bedtime stories over the PA system. His vegetables were known as the best and biggest in the area and though other farmers asked for his secrets, they just couldn't implement them as well as he did.

That might have been because of the other secret to his success: magic!

Though one day, tragedy struck and Farmer Brown lost control of his combine, leading to an unfortunate accident. Thankfully, his beloved crops merged with his body and resurrected him. Though his community was a little wary around him now.

When you come across him in your travels and offer him the chance to join your motley crew, he accepts!

You can find Farmer Brown in seat 35 on the bench.

    COTLI: Sunsetting FAQ

Recently we announced the sunsetting of Crusaders, and we've been getting some questions related to this announcement. Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions.
    • Q: What does sunsetting mean in this context?
      • A: It means the game will no longer receive new content updates. The game servers will be kept running as long as we are able to.

    • Q: How long is long?
      • A: We've had game servers running from 6 to 12 years (Egg Breaker 1) for games out of production so far, so you've got years to keep playing Crusaders.

    • Q: Why are you sunsetting Crusaders?
      • A: Live service games like Crusaders require a fairly large community to support the development of them. While this community is great, sadly the support to provide the resources that Crusaders needs to continue running in a sustainable manner is no longer there, and so we've made the decision to stop live servicing the game.

    • Q: Is there a hail mary situation for keeping the game alive?
      • A: No, now that we've come to this decision, we won't be reversing it.

    • Q: Will you sell the game base?
      • A: No, we will not be entertaining offers of purchasing the game.

    • Q: Will you make an offline version or allow community mods?
      • A: No, this is not something we'll be offering.

    • Q: What will happen with the Golden Epics?
      • A: All non-DLC Golden Epics will be added to the Challenge Token store and the Flash Sale pool lists up to the one released with the April 8th, 2022 weekend promo. Those will be all the Golden Epics that exist in the game.

    • Q: What about the Desert Bus Crusaders?
      • A: The Desert Bus Crusaders were part of donations made to Desert Bus while their campaign was running. We won't be partnering with Desert Bus for Crusaders in future, so what players have, they have. The Crusaders or their recipes won't be offered through other means.

    • Q: What about the Yogscast/Search for Simon event?
      • A: It will not be re-running, and we will be hiding the related achievements for all players.

    • Q: What about the Tier 5 kill 10,000 monster achievements?
      • A: We will be hiding these achievements for all players as part of the final content updates.

    • Q: Will purchases still be available after the last content update?
      • A: Yes, we'll be keeping purchases enabled. Players will be able to purchase flash sales, the packs, the chests and the dungeon pass if they wish to.

    • Q: What is happening with the weekend buffs?
      • A: The final weekend buff will be the weekend of Friday, April 8th, 2022. We won't be rerunning these or randomly choosing 5 Crusaders to be buffed. We'll be changing the Weekend Warrior talent to something else, now that Crusaders won't be buffed.

    • Q: Will codes given in the weekly Champions of Psychology live stream continue to work in Crusaders and award a Runic Chest?
      • A: The chest codes from Champions of Psychology will only continue to work in Crusaders for the episodes airing before the May 4th, 2022 final content update.
