Kaines' Dinner of Doom Event

To put on the best Thanksgiving dinner ever, Kaine's brilliant scientist mother decided to apply her vast scientific knowledge to her culinary skills but didn't stop to think if she should!

Now the Kaine mansion is awash with various foodstuffs intent on making the Crusaders choke on them. Or more to the point, choke the Crusaders to death.

The limited time Thanksgiving event features four exclusive objectives, a new formation and two new Crusaders to unlock.

RoboTurkey

Carrying on with tradition, there are two new Crusaders that can join your crusade, once your adventurers survive the objectives. The first of the two, RoboTurkey, won't make it easy though as he debuffs the Crusaders around him in the new pie formation, decreasing their max health by 50%.

Momma Kaine

Momma Kaine is the second of the two new Crusaders. However, separating her from her culinary experimentation and getting her clear of the mansion is going to be tough. As the Crusaders abduct her mid-experiment, she inadvertently freezes adjacent Crusaders every 10 seconds. The affected heroes will have their DPS reduced to 0 for 15 seconds, but thankfully their formation abilities are unharmed.

RoboTurkey shares a formation seat with Princess. His unique ability enables him to increase a random Crusader's DPS by 10% for 30 seconds by zapping them, while absorbing 25% of the DPS for himself.

Momma Kaine, who shares a formation seat with Khouri, is a nurturing sort as well as being a brilliant scientist. She has a number of unique abilities. First, she heals the Crusaders furthest away from her by 20% per second. She also has a ranged power where she can slow the furthest monster from the Crusaders by 25%, perfect for taking down bosses. Finally, she synergizes with RoboTurkey by increasing the DPS of zapped Crusaders by a further 50%.

New for this Event:

Once you've grabbed both RoboTurkey and Momma Kaine, you'll be able to start the Thanksgiving Free Play for 2,500 Pumpkin Pies.

Gravy Train

The remaining two objectives will require having had at least 250 and 500 Idols respectively as well as the event currency of Pumpkin Pie to start. In Gravy Train, a giant train of gravy will block slots in your formation. And the Plaid Friday Deals are too good to be true! Crusaders cost less...but they do much less DPS over the entire 200 areas.

Can you stop the killer food before it's too late? Or will the enhanced tryptophan slow you down?

You have until Monday December 7th at Noon PST to control the madness!

Grimm's Idle Tales Campaign

It's time for dark and brooding tales of old crones, malevolent giant wolves, man-sized living straw effigies, blood and guts. Hang on a minute! That can't be correct, can it?

Oh, but it is. With the latest Crusaders of the Lost Idols campaign we are revisiting your favorite fairy tales but darkly rooted in the best traditions of the Brothers Grimm tales with a dash of other worlds.

The settings for the six new objectives will seem eerily familiar to you. Along with the objectives to get to area 200 and 300, are four objectives that will test your formation planning skills and attentiveness as you wander down memory lane.

Not In Kansas Anymore

There's a story of an omnipotent wizard in a big, green city and a rag-tag bunch of misfits requiring an escort to said city in 'Not in Kansas Anymore'. The girl, the scarecrow, the lion, and the tin man will join your party over time as you progress, taking up precious formation slots and debuffing your DPS, gold generation and your health.

What Big Teeth You Have

'What Big Teeth You Have' is an objective that has something to do with wolves; we're sure of it. What else would be able to climb into clothes (albeit the matronly garments your grandmother wears) with the sole purpose of devouring your charge, a small red-caped girl? What's more, the beast will appear randomly without warning throughout the 250 areas you must complete and with a monstrous amount of HP making him a brutal monster if ever we saw one.

Sleeping Beauty

Just so you don't think that narcolepsy is a joke, in 'Sleeping Beauty' half of your Crusaders will randomly fall asleep on the job! Every 25 areas, random Crusaders will nod off and no longer do any damage and be unable to use their buff abilities, forcing you to shuffle your formation.

Down the Rabbit Hole

Finally, you may have noticed we like rabbits here at Codename Entertainment. As if by magic (probably by way of a hat) the objective 'Down the Rabbit Hole' puts your Crusaders in charge of a certain fidgety white rabbit. This bouncing furball will hop between random formation slots every 25 levels buffing adjacent Crusaders by 200% to hurry them along.

All of the objectives will require a mastery of a brand new formation too just to keep you on your toes.

The Idol Shop Opens Its Doors - Slightly!

As our more veteran players all know, we've been planning to add a way to spend Idols to increase your power since the game first launched. Unfortunately that update is taking more time than we'd like, so we've decided to roll out a few of the more commonly requested features from it prior to the whole system being completed. Without further adieu, we present to you the Crusaders Talent Tree!

Talent Tree Menu

Accessed via a button where the Idol Shop button used to be on the inventory tab, the Talent Tree will eventually contain dozens and dozens of skills and abilities to unlock for increasing numbers of Idols. For now, however, it contains two very valuable and sought after features:

Buy All Button

The Buy All Talent unlocks a new button on the Crusaders UI. With a single click it will immediate spend as much gold as possible to maximize your total Crusader Levels. This button is extremely useful just before you reset, as it will maximize your Idols gained on that run. To unlock the ability to purchase the Buy All talent you must have beaten Area 150 in any campaign. Purchasing this talent will cost you 25 Idols as well. Idols you spend in the Talent Tree will no longer grant their DPS or Gold Find bonuses.

Mass Chest Button

The Mass Chest Talent adds three new buttons to the Chest Opening screen. These new buttons allow you to open 5, 25, or 100 chests all at once, displaying the cumulative contents for your to peruse. This tier 2 Talent requires you to have beaten Area 300 in any campaign, so if you haven't done so yet you may want to start planning to do a deep run into Emo's New Moon or the World's Wake campaign on Free Play! You'll also need to spend 100 of your hard earned Idols to purchase this talent.

Mass Chest Screen

We'll be adding more and more Talents over time, so stay tuned to this blog and the in-game change log for more information about those.

In addition to these two talents we're also updating the functionality of Enchantment Points with today's update. We've received a lot of feedback regarding Holiday Crusaders not feeling as powerful as the classic Crusaders due to an EP differential. Based on this feedback, we've changed it so that 30% of EP is now shared between Crusaders in the same bench slot. This means that Jack O'Lantern now benefits from 30% of Natalie Dragon's EP, and Wendy the Witch benefits from 30% of Prince Sal's EP. This also applies to Crusaders from the Carnival Event and will apply to any new Crusaders we add in the future. We're also planning to add a Talent to the Talent Tree in the future that will increase the percentage of shared EP. This should make Holiday Crusaders much more competitive with the classic Crusaders, especially if you've earned a lot of Enchantment Points!

We hope you enjoy these new features. We'll be releasing more information about new Talents and features in the future, based not only upon our own ideas, but your invaluable feedback! Thank you for your patience and support!

New Halloween Event!

Halloween comes early this year with our second limited time event. If you've ever wondered why Emo Werewolf is so emo, you'll have the chance to learn the legend first-hand.

You'll discover the shaggy Crusader's tortured past that includes lost love and a feud with a dead rival. And it's all set against the backdrop of teenage angst, at a high school.

Starting today and running until November 4th, the Halloween event campaign features four new objectives and two brand new Crusaders. Once you've convinced them to join your party by completing their respective objectives, you'll be able to include them in your formation.

"liek dis if u cry evry tim"

To enter the event, you must collect candies dropped by monsters when you destroy them in any objective. The first of the Halloween objectives costs 100 candies as the price of entry. Once you've saved up some candy, use Nate Dragon's "Reset the World" ability to view the event objectives.

Wendy the Witch is the first new Crusader you'll unlock. She draws power from her enemies and deals more damage the more monsters there are on the screen. Once she's on your side, she can be swapped with Prince Sal, the Merman. The second new Crusader is Jack O'Lantern, a tank that pairs well with Jason, Master of Shadows to bust down boss levels and tank up a storm. Each monster attacking him, trying to knock out his bonus health, will add a 10% DPS boost to your whole formation! He can be swapped in for Natalie Dragon.

"My enemies think to overwhelm me; they only make me more powerful"

However, it's not going to be that easy! When attempting to rescue the witch, she'll debuff the DPS of every Crusader adjacent to her for every extra monster on screen. Jack O'Lantern will make the two columns in front of him take more damage until you've recruited him to your side.

"Not so gooey after all"

One additional change we've made is to make those surplus Event Tickets more useful. If you manage to stockpile an extra 15,000 candies you can trade them for a Jeweled Halloween Chest! As a reminder, these special chests contain the exclusive gear for the two new Crusaders once you have added them to your roster.

However, take note: You can only trade surplus candies for Halloween Event Chests while the event is running (but you can continue to buy the Jeweled Halloween Chests two days after the Halloween event has finished).

Break out the holy water and stakes, dig out the pumpkin carver and silver bullets, Crusaders. You'll need to this Halloween.

The event will run until Wednesday November 4th at Noon PDT.

New Objectives!

Following hot on the heels of our Steam launch and welcoming all those gamers into the Crusaders' community, we have three new objectives for everyone to play.

Demolition Derby tasks the Crusaders in the Descent into Darkness campaign with protecting three very 'volatile' characters. A trio of demolition experts occupy the middle three slots of the diamond formation. Each is carrying a bomb that has to be delivered to area 250 safely to earn 250 rubies. If your Crusaders fail their mission to protect them... Boom! Your formation will wipe, and you'll get knocked back an area.

Demotion Derby

The Ghostbeard's Greed campaign has two new objectives that introduce a fun twist. Guys Night Out is an objective where players can only use male Crusaders. The female and animal Crusaders have decided to have a night off, leaving you the conundrum of organizing your formation using only the guys to reach

Of course, the female and animal Crusaders don't want to miss out on the action. In Beauties and the Beasts, you can only choose from the female and animal Crusaders for the same box formation as Guys Night Out. It's going to require some careful formation planning for both objectives to secure those precious rubies.

Good luck!

Upgraded Buffs!

Introducing New Buffs

Over the past few weeks we've received a lot of feedback from players regarding clicking related buff cards found in chests. Based upon this feedback, we decided to replace a couple of the clicking related buff cards in the game with different, and hopefully more interesting, buff cards. This week we ran a poll in-game to gather additional feedback, and based upon that and our own internal discussions we've made a few changes to the buff cards in-game:

The buff cards that used to increase your Critical Click Damage Multiplier now increase Monster Spawn Speed instead. This new buff type allows you to progress through easier levels much, much faster, though it's efficacy trails off as you're no longer able to quickly kill your enemies. We expect this buff to be prized by players attempting to speed through the first hundred levels or so of a reset.

The buff cards that used to multiply your Base Click Damage now cause a percentage of your DPS to hit all active enemies. This new buff type allows you to mow through large groups of enemies with a much higher efficiency. The more enemies on your screen, the higher the effectiveness of this buff, assuming you don't get overrun. We expect this buff to be useful in giving you that extra boost you need to overcome a difficult boss encounter.

The buff cards the used to increase your Critical Click Chance now also increase your Critical Click Damage Multiplier. This card absorbed the effect from one of the cards that had its effect replaced, making it much more powerful as it buffs two important clicking stats at once.

Overall we hope that the changes make the consumable buff cards feel a little more powerful and thus a little more desirable, such that an otherwise exciting chest opening won't be spoiled by a buff card you'll never use.

FAQ

How exactly do the new Spawn Speed buff cards work?

The Spawn Speed buff cards increase the velocity at which new monsters appear on screen. If you're quickly killing monsters as they spawn, this means that they'll be attackable much sooner after they've appeared. These buff cards do not decrease the time between wave spawns if you are unable to kill a wave before the next one appears.

How exactly do the new Splash Damage buff cards work?

A percentage of your total DPS will be applied to all attackable monsters on the screen. Your total DPS will still attack the front-most enemy. This buff does not affect clicked damage, but does stack with DPS increasing buffs.

What happens to the old buff cards I had?

All of your Critical Click Damage Multiplier buff cards will be replaced 1-to-1 with Spawn Speed buff cards. All of your Click Damage Multiplier buff cards will be replaced 1-to-1 with Splash Damage buff cards. All of your Critical Click Chance buff cards now also increase your Critical Click Damage Multiplier.

Don't the Spawn Speed buff cards make speed run objectives/achievements trivial?

Yup, we thought of it. Speed based objectives disable the Spawn Speed buff cards so you can't use them while on the objective, and using a Spawn Speed buff card during a run will invalidate you from earning the current speed based achievement. Look for special restrictions/caveats on achievements and objectives in the future for specific details on which buffs are allowed.

First New Event! Carnival of Sorrows

Today we're introducing a brand new feature for Crusaders of the Lost Idols, and it's a major update to the game! We have created new limited time events where you can unlock brand-new Crusaders among other rewards.

Carnival of Sorrows

The inaugural event is The Carnival of Sorrows. This dark and demonic funfair has rolled into the Crusaders world with some twisted new objectives to complete. However, entry to the objectives requires you to have earned enough tickets to spend on unlocking them. Tickets can be earned by killed monsters.

Once you have enough tickets, you'll have to complete the four new objectives and claim your rewards before the Carnival packs up and leaves on Tuesday, October 13 at Noon PDT.

New Crusaders

The opening two objectives are the first time you'll meet Pete the Carney and Mister the Monkey, two prisoners of the Carnival of Sorrows whom you need to rescue. The evil circus members have trapped them in their warped traveling carnival.

You must help break them out of the demonic spell by liberating them from the carnival. It won't be easy as they will debuff your Crusaders and take up a slot in your formation. However, completing the objectives will release them from their captivity, and they'll join your ranks. Once recruited you'll be able to select the character for all your formations by using the all-new swap button.

Mister the Monkey can be switched for Kaine while Pete the Carney can be switched for Jason by choosing the switch option just above the enchantment points.

Pete the Carney

Pete the Carney packs some new unique upgrades. A lifetime of traveling with the twisted carnival has built up his arsenal of improvements. His Bad Jokes are so bad that the Crusaders furthest from Pete receive a 50% boost to their DPS. As well, his level 200 bonus is Clown Rage that even has Pennywise diving for cover.

Mister the Monkey is no slouch either. He can buff all the Crusaders in the column behind him to find 25% more Gold, and fling a little poop while he's at it. Monkey see, monkey do.

Elephants of DOOOOM!

The remaining two objectives are Elephant of DOOOOM, where two elephants block valuable formation slots raising the challenge, and Carnival of Death, featuring double the number of monsters per area. These objectives reward Jeweled Carnival chests!

Of course, if you have extra tickets and want to get more gear for your new Crusaders while you can, you can run the Free Play mode. You get a guaranteed Silver Carnival chest for completion that has a chance to be upgraded to a Jeweled Carnival chest!

You have 11 days to beat the event and rescue Pete and Mister the Monkey. Can you do it?

The event ends Tuesday, October 13 at Noon PDT.
