Idle Champions: Ahghairon's Day 6
Posted in Idle Champions.

Each year the citizens of Waterdeep celebrate Ahghairon's Day, honoring the first Open Lord of Waterdeep and the founder of the Lords of Waterdeep. Common folk leave violets and effigies at Ahghairon's Tower and the House of Wonder, Lords toast Ahghairon and the Watchful Order, and Guildmasters offer toasts in the name of the Lords.

For this year's festivities, the party has received an assignment from the Open Lord of Waterdeep, Laeral Silverhand and when the Open Lord calls, you must answer...

Ahghairon's Day 6 brings Lae'zel, the Githyanki fighter from Baldur's Gate 3, and brings back Voronika, the Eladrin Druid from Black Dice Society and Prudence, the Chaotic Evil Tiefling Warlock of the Oxventurer's Guild. Players have until Monday, August 28th at 12PM PDT to complete their event unlocks and objectives.

I. Lae'zel

Lae'zel is a ferocious Githyanki warrior, mighty even by the standards of her mind flayer-hunting kind. Faced with transforming into the very monster she's sworn to destroy, Lae'zel must prove herself worthy of rejoining her people – if they don't execute her first.

Lae'zel is a Support, Speed, and DPS Champion that can complete areas early when other Champions are defeating enemies. She increases the damage of Champions in her column, and her specialization choice defines what type of fighter she is. Once unlocked, you can find this Githyanki Fighter in Slot 2 opposite Celeste.

For more information on Lae'zel and her abilities, check out her Champion Spotlight!

Year Six Variants

Together, We Might Survive - Help Laeral Silverhand track down a retired Open Lord with Lae'zel!
  • Lae'zel starts in the formation. She can't be moved or removed.
  • Only Champions in Lae'zel's column (including her) can deal damage.
  • Getting to know Lae'zel: Lae'zel increases the damage of all champions in her column, including herself. Place your champions to best take advantage of this!
  • Reach Area 75.

Speed Run - Help Laeral Silverhand track down a retired Open Lord while quickly defeating your foes!
  • Lae'zel starts in the formation with her Straight to the Point ability unlocked. She can't be moved or removed.
  • You may only use Champions with a base attack cooldown of 5 seconds or faster.
  • Getting to know Lae'zel: Lae'zel is impatient when facing weak foes. She'll occasionally skip the rest of an area when the enemies aren't challenging enough!
  • Reach Area 125.

Destroy the Ghaik! - Help Laeral Silverhand track down a retired Open Lord with the help of the tastiest brains.
  • Lae'zel starts in the formation with her Lethal Coordination and Aberration Hunter abilities unlocked. She can't be moved or removed.
  • You may only use Champions with an Intelligence of 13 or higher.
  • A Mind Flayer spawns with each wave. They don't drop gold nor do they count for quest progress.
  • Getting to know Lae'zel: Aberrations like Mind Flayers are Lae'zel's favored foe. Her main buff increases as more of them spawn!
  • Reach Area 175.

We would love to hear about your experiences in Idle Champions on the Idle Champions Subreddit, on the Steam forums, or on the Official Idle Champions Discord!

Idle Champion Spotlight: Lae'zel
Posted in Idle Champions.

"You'd do well to observe more and question less."

No one knows more about Mind Flayers than the Githyanki. They have trained to aggressively hunt down those horrific aberrations wherever they are found, and Lae'zel is one of their fiercest warriors; deadly, pragmatic, and focused on getting the job done. With an Illithid tadpole in her brain, Lae'zel will stop at nothing to get it removed before ceremorphosis turns her into her worst nightmare.

III. Lae'zel's Design

We've been very excited to gather our party and venture into Baldur's Gate 3, and it's been wonderful to work with the fine folk at Larian Studios to gather Lae'zel into our formation! As one of the first companions that you'll meet, interactions with Lae'zel can have a prominent effect on the course of the game. Adding her to your Idle Champions formation offers the opportunity to work with her deadly skills in a different way!

Lae'zel is fierce, strong, and very goal-oriented. She focuses on completing her tasks with brutal efficiency, and increases the damage of all Champions in her column to help with that task. This restlessness makes her get Straight to the Point, gaining an Impatience stack when someone else defeats an enemy. When her Impatience is high enough she'll push the formation forward and immediately completing the current area, as long as it's not a Boss area. She's determined to remove the mind flayer tadpole from her brain, increasing her damage bonus for every Champion in the formation who are also infected. Her agitation grows if she doesn't kill her enemy right away, so she'll rush forward quickly to strike again. And nothing makes this Githyanki more vicious than seeing her Favored Foe: aberrations! Just spotting one will increase her damage bonus so they can be destroyed as quickly as possible.

Specializing in a particular fighting style refines the tactics Lae'zel uses in battle. As a Champion she'll focuses on increasing the chance and power of her Critical Hits. She can use Battle Master maneuvers to cause enemies who survive her attack to become distracted, letting another Champion do even more damage to finish them off. Or she can alter the way her basic attack works by becoming an Eldritch Knight. Most of the time Lae'zel focuses on her Greatsword, but this specialization lets her add Magic Missiles to her attacks! Finally she can leap onto the battlefield and attack a group of enemies with a psionic shockwave, and if this Ultimate attack doesn't kill them then those that survive are left stunned!

Lae'zel will impatiently end areas early when her allies do most of the killing, but her brutal attacks will speed up as she fights enemies that are difficult to kill!

IV. Lae'zel's Abilities

Basic Attack

Lae'zel has two base attacks. She generally attacks with her Greatsword attack, but her Eldritch Knight specialization changes her base attack to War Magic.
  • Greatsword - Lae'zel moves up to the closest Monster and attacks all nearby enemies with a swing from her Greatsword.
  • War Magic - Lae'zel moves up to the closest Monster and attacks all nearby enemies with a swing from her Greatsword, then immediately casts magic missiles at 3 random targets.

Passive Abilities

  • Critical Hit - Lae'zel's base chance to Critical Hit is 20%.

Formation Abilities

  • Lethal Coordination - Lae'zel increases the damage of all Champions in her column by 100%, including herself.
  • Ceremorphosis - Your formation gains one Ceremorphosis stack due to the mind flayer tadpole in Lae'zel's brain. Lae'zel increases the effect of Lethal Coordination by 100% for each Ceremorphosis stack, stacking multiplicatively. Future Champions will be able to add more Ceremorphosis stacks.
  • Straight to the Point - In non-boss areas, whenever an enemy is defeated by anything other than Lae'zel, she has a 100% chance to gain an Impatience stack. When she has 17 Impatience stacks, complete the current area and reset the Impatience stacks to the current Ceremorphosis count. Stacks persist when changing areas.
  • Aberration Hunter - Aberrations are Lae'zel's favored foe. Every time an Aberration spawns, Lae'zel's Lethal Coordination is multiplicatively increased by 100%, stacking up to 4 times the Ceremorphosis stack count and resetting when changing areas. There is a 33% with each wave in a non-boss area that an extra Mind Flayer spawns.
  • Ferocious Warrior - If Lae'zel attacks and any of her targets survive, her base attack cooldown for her next attack is reduced by 4 seconds.

Specializations

  • Champion - Increase Lae'zel's Critical Hit chance by +20% and Critical Hit damage by +100%.
  • Battle Master - When Lae'zel hits an enemy and they survive, the enemy is distracted and the next Champion (other than Lae'zel) that hits them deals an additional 4 seconds of BUD-based damage.
  • Eldritch Knight - Lae'zel now casts Magic Missile immediately after attacking with her Greatsword, firing a missile at 3 random targets.

Ultimate Ability

  • Psionic Leap - Lae'zel psionically leaps into the middle of the enemies and attacks all close by enemies with a psionic shockwave attack, dealing 1 hit of ultimate damage. Enemies that are attacked and survive are Stunned for 5 seconds.

V. Lae'zel's Epic Equipment

Slot 1: Global DPS
Slot 2: Lethal Coordination

Dungeons & Dragons Oxventures Prudence

There's nothing more fun than being the bad one, and this tiefling revels in her commitment to violent solutions to any problem! But now she appreciates the companionship of her fellow Oxventure Guild members, even if they disagree on tactics and morality. She is a devoted warlock of Cthulhu and enjoys following his dark, if sometimes confusing, instructions. While her powers and abilities may be grim, her demeanor is gleeful as she disintegrates her foes!

Prudence is a DPS Champion who focuses on destroying her enemies with her Eldritch powers. When you want to add her to your formation you can swap her with Calliope (Slot 5).

II. Prudence's Stats

Race: Tiefling Alignment: Chaotic Evil
Class: Warlock Gender: Female
Age: 28

STR: 14 DEX: 12 CON: 17
INT: 15 WIS: 12 CHA: 18

III. Prudence's Design

It's not often we can add such a joyfully evil Champion to our roster, and it was a delight to work with Jane Douglas to bring her bloodthirsty character to life in the game! The Oxventure crew from Outside Xbox and Outside Xtra have been playing together for several years, which gave us a wonderfully large library of adventures to draw from when creating Prudence in Idle Champions.

Prudence is focused on dealing damage and killing enemies, and the more foes she's felled the happier she becomes! Each time she kills an enemy she gains a stack of Glee, and those stacks further increase her damage. Her Specializations allow you to decrease the cooldown of either her base attack or ultimate attack, so she can get back to the slaughter even faster.

For more information on Prudence and her abilities, check out her Champion Spotlight!

Year Four Variants

  • Spider Climb - Giant Wolf Spiders arrive in each area. These spiders drop no gold, nor do they count towards quest progress. Each time a spider is killed, a random Champion is stunned for 2 seconds. Only Champions with DEX of 12 or higher can be used.
  • Reach Area 75.

  • Gleefully Evil — Only Evil Champions can deal damage. Prudence starts in your formation and her base attack cooldown is reduced by 2 seconds.
Getting to know Prudence: Prudence finds it fun to kill enemies in front of her more squeamish good-aligned allies. Add good-aligned champions to power up her Glee stacks. If she maxes her stacks of Glee consistently, consider adding a non-good champion to give her someone who gets her jokes, increasing her max stacks and super-charging her power level!
    Reach Area 125.

  • Pure Hunger — A tentacle accompanies the formation. No one knows what it's doing, but it's freaking most of us out. Enemies move 100% faster and deal 100% additional damage. Every 25 areas, all enemies' speed and damage is increased by an additional 35%. Whenever Prudence kills an enemy, all enemies are stunned for .5 seconds.
  • Reach Area 175.

Each time she kills an enemy she gains a stack of Glee, and those stacks further increases her damage. Since she enjoys showing off to both Good and non-Good aligned Champions, her Delight and Resolve abilities increases her damage and maximum number of stacks of Glee. But if her attack is not enough to destroy her target she gains a stack of Frustration, which increases her damage. That way she can make sure the next time she attacks, those Champions adjacent to her don't witness her fail at murder again!

Her Specializations allow you to decrease the cooldown of either her base attack or ultimate attack, so she can get back to the slaughter even faster. And when it's time to unleash death and destruction across the battlefield, her Ultimate Hunger of Hadar is sure to bring Prudence great joy and her enemies unknown horror!

IV. Prudence's Abilities

Basic Attack

  • Eldritch Blast — A beam of crackling green shoots towards an enemy, dealing damage.

Formation Abilities

  • Glee — Prudence gains one stack of Glee each time she kills an enemy. For each stack of Glee, her damage is increased by 10%, stacking additively and capping at 10 stacks. Glee has a 25% chance to lose one stack whenever a Champion other than Prudence gets a kill.
  • Delight — Increase the damage bonus of Prudence's Glee ability by 100% for each Good aligned Champion in the formation, stacking additively and then applying multiplicatively.
  • Resolve — Increase the max stacks of Prudence's Glee by 10 for each non-Good Champion in the formation.
  • Frustration — Every time Prudence attacks an enemy but does not kill it she gains a stack of Frustration. Frustration stacks increase her damage by 200%, stacking multiplicatively. The maximum number of Frustration stacks is equal to the number of Champions adjacent to Prudence. Frustration stacks are reduced by 1 each time Prudence gets a kill.

Specializations

  • Eldritch Torrent — When Prudence attacks, there is a 50% chance that her base attack cooldown will be immediately reset.
  • She Hungers — When Prudence attacks, there is a 5% chance that her ultimate attack cooldown will be immediately reset.

Ultimate Ability

  • Hunger of Hadar — Prudence opens a gateway to the dark between the stars, a region infested with unknown horrors. An area of blackness and bitter cold appears on the ground between melee range and ranged range of enemies. Tentacles erupt out of it, pulling all enemies together.

Idle Champions: Ahghairon's Day 2
Posted in Idle Champions.

For this year's festivities, the party has received an assignment from the Open Lord of Waterdeep, Laeral Silverhand — and when the Open Lord calls, you must answer...

Ahghairon's Day 2 introduces Jim Darkmagic, the most famous and powerful wizard from Acquisitions Incorporated. Players will have until Monday, August 26th, 2019 at 12:00pm PDT, to unlock Jim!

New Champion: Jim Darkmagic

James Winifred Darkmagic III is the scion of a mysterious, multi-planar wizarding family. As an entertainer and purveyor of the 'Jim Darkmagic Experience,' the legendary mage can often be found in markets and town squares performing feats of mundane legerdemain. The renown he has earned for these feats is nearly equaled by the reputation that follows him as a Chief Arcanist (and occasional arsonist) for Acquisitions Incorporated.
Jim is a DPS and Support Champion. His Wand of Wonder offers varied Support effects, and his Magic Magic Magic Magic increases the DPS of Champions with magic base attacks. When you want to add Jim to your formation, you can swap him with Minsc (Slot 7).

For more information about our latest Champion, check out the Idle Champion Spotlight: Jim Darkmagic dev blog!

Year One Champion: Ishi Snaggletooth

Ishi Snaggletooth hails from a warren of Kobolds living in the sewers under Baldur's Gate. Always the type to be more curious than careful, she accidentally stowed away on a ship headed to Port Nyanzaru. There, she met her dear friend, the Firbolg Littlefox. Often shunned by humans, Ishi hopes to prove herself as a true hero however she can. Ishi's biggest claim to fame is the defeat of the known swordsman, Hershel Von Saberburg, and since that day she's touted herself as a renowned duelist to anyone that'll listen to her.
Ishi is always the fastest Champion in your formation. She increases her own damage as well as the party's Gold Find based on the number of non-human members. When you want to add Ishi to your party, you can swap her with Jarlaxle (Slot 4).

Year Two Variants

  • Spelling "Bee" — Our Champions continue to struggle to spell "Ahghairon's day". Spelling Bees spawn at random, reducing the DPS of whomever kills them by 90% for 20 seconds. If that Champion kills another Spelling Bee before their debuff expires, the effect stacks and resets the cooldown back to 20 seconds.
    Reach area 75.

  • Magical Misadventure — Only Champions whose base attacks are magical may be used.
    Reach area 125.

  • Center of the Multiverse — Jim Darkmagic starts the adventure in the formation and cannot be moved or swapped out. Only formation slots which Jim considers to be useful to himself may be used (the columns in front of and behind him).
    Reach area 175.

Year One Variants

  • Memory Magic — Two slots in your formation are affected by a magical spell causing all of the bandits to fight for the Eye of Gruumsh spellcaster. These affected slots change every 15 seconds by moving to a random adjacent slot. Heroes in affected slots must concentrate on resisting the magic, so they are unable to attack and all their Formation Abilities are disabled.
    Reach area 75.

  • Orcs Among Us — One, two, or three Powered-up Orc Fighters spawn randomly with each wave. They have triple health, do triple damage, they do not drop any gold, and they do not count toward any quest progress.
    Reach area 125.

  • No Humans Allowed — Ishi has been shunned by humans too many times, and for once she just wants them to see how it feels! You cannot use Human Champions in this variant.
    Reach area 175.

Idle Champions Event: Ahghairon's Day
Posted in Idle Champions.

Ahghairon's Day commemorates the birthday of Ahghairon, the first Open Lord of Waterdeep and founder of the Lords of Waterdeep. In his name, Lords toast Ahghairon and the Watchful Order, while guildmasters toast the Lords in Ahghairon's name, and common folk leave violets at the base of Ahghairon's Tower, the Plinth, and atop the altars of the House of Wonder.

As part of the festivities, the party is tasked with seeking out a Lord of Waterdeep who stepped down long ago. It seems like an easy request — but if it were easy, it wouldn't have come directly from the Open Lord of Waterdeep herself...

Ahghairon's Day is our sixteenth limited-time event for Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms, which runs until Monday, August 27th at 12:00pm PDT, and introduces Ishi Snaggletooth, Kobold Fighter!

Ishi is always the fastest Champion in your formation. She increases her own damage as well as the party's Gold Find based on the number of non-human members. When you want to add Ishi to your party, you can swap her with Jarlaxle or Stoki.

Idle Champion Spotlight - Ishi Snaggletooth
Posted in Idle Champions.

Welcome back to our latest Champion Spotlight design blog! Today, we're going to go into detail on our newest Champion: Ishi Snaggletooth - Kobold Fighter, who will be available in our latest event: Ahghairon's Day- launching on August 15th! I hope this blog will give you all you need to know about our latest Champion.

How you can unlock Ishi:

Ishi is unlocked by playing Ahghairon's Day, a limited-time event launching on August 15th and running until August 27th. Once you unlock Ishi, she swaps with Jarlaxle or Stoki.

Who is Ishi:

In addition to being an adorable pile of Kobold fanciness, Ishi is a character played in the weekly Roll 20 livestream on the D&D Twitch channel. Ishi is an overconfident loudmouth. She's out to prove herself, and she doesn't know when to shut her mouth. I don't know about you, but I can definitely relate on that point! Since she began her adventuring career, she's often been looked down upon as "just a kobold". However, she's taken that frustration and channeled it into championing the fact that monsters can be adventurers too! Thanks to a few lucky encounters, and her ability to exaggerate her skills, she's known as a deadly duelist most noted for defeating the great Hershel Von Saberberg in a duel to the death. The remnants of his cape now adorn her small stature as a reminder to those that she passes: Ishi is not to be messed with.

You can go along on the continuing adventures of Ishi & co. every Friday at 1PM PST. She is roleplayed by Violet Miller, AKA DistractedElf.

Ishi's Design:

From our initial discussions with Violet, we keyed into the idea of "monsters are people too", as it is core to who Ishi is. She's a fighter who focuses on DPS and increasing your gold find.

Ishi is always out to prove herself, and that is reflected in her Quick Strike basic attack. Quick Strike states: Ishi attacks the front-most enemy a quarter second faster than anyone else. That means if you're fastest champion is attacking every 4 seconds, Ishi attacks every 3.75 seconds. If you then add a champion that attacks every 3.5 seconds, Ishi steps it up and attacks every 3.25 seconds!

The first ability you'll unlock with Ishi is her Monsters are People Too! ability. With it, she increases her damage by 25% for each non-human champion in the formation. It's an additive bonus, so if you can get her surrounded by 6 non-humans, she's got a 150% increase in her damage, just for hanging with her peeps!

From there, you can unlock the first of her specialization choices, which focus on increasing your gold find.

If you want to use her in the early game, when you're cleaving through enemies quickly, choose Clear 'em Out! If you want to have her boost your gold find when you're close to your wall and fighting against a bunch of baddies, choose Wait for It!

Her next ability is Let's Find Some Treasure, which increases all gold found by 10% for every non-human champion adjacent to Ishi. Are you sensing a pattern here?

From there, you reach her second specialization choice, which is all about choosing her friends.

You can choose her friends from 3 groups:
  1. Shorties: Both monsters and "standard" adventuring races that share a similar aversion to being the tallest in the room.
  2. Tall Monsters: The name says it all. Monstrous races who tower over Ishi.
  3. Tall Folk: These are tall folk that Ishi doesn't consider monsters, but at least they're not humans!

Whichever route you go, Ishi's damage is raised by 100% for each of those races in the formation!

Ishi's Ultimate Attack:

Ishi's ultimate is called Confidence Boost. It's all about her strutting her stuff in front of her friends. For each non-human in the formation, Ishi's damage is increased by 100% for 15 seconds. Pair that with friends who attack quickly, and Ishi can easily bounce around the screen, laying waste to your enemies!

  • Ishi's Rapier increases her damage.
Slot 2: Cape
  • Ishi's cape inspires those around her, increasing their damage (even if they're human).
Slot 3: Hat
  • Ishi's amazingly fancy hat increases the effect of Monsters are People Too! increasing Ishi's damage for every non-human adjacent to her.
Slot 4: IOU
  • Ishi once ran into the famed Artus Cimber, and carries an IOU from him to be redeemed at a later date. This equipment card increases the effect of Let's Find Some Treasure, increasing your party's gold find for every non-human adjacent to Ishi.
Slot 5: Nub Ub the mouse
  • Ishi's pet mouse, Nub Ub helps to inspire her to continue onward when using her Confidence Boost Ultimate Attack.
Slot 6: Pocket Soup
  • I've heard it's a delicacy, but the pocket lint turned me off from trying it. Pocket Soup decreases the cooldown of Ishi's Ultimate Attack, allowing her to use Confidence Boost more often!

TL;DR- Final Ishi Thoughts

We're super excited to introduce Ishi into the game. Hopefully she'll inspire you to think of new formations, casting those pesky humans aside. We'll be watching the discussion online and on discord to see how well she's received, so let us know what you think on Facebook, Twitter, or on the official Discord!
