Idle Champion Spotlight: Ezmerelda d'Avenir

Those that have played through the Grand Tour adventures based in Barovia have already been introduced to Ezmerelda d'Avenir. This renowned monster hunter has been helping battle the creatures of the night since Year 4, and after a few more years of experience she's learned some new tactics. She is ready to show off her improved skillset in this reintroduction, as well as bring the new Debuff role to the formation!

I. Ezmerelda

Dungeons & Dragons Ezmerelda d'Avenir

    A prolific vampire hunter from the land of Barovia. Ezmerelda has joined the Champions to try and rid this new realm from evil. She brings a wealth of knowledge from Barovia to assist the Champions.

Ezmerelda is a Support Champion who teaches other Champions how to spot the vulnerable points of their enemies. She increases her debuffs as the Champions defeat more undead, which are her favored foe. Once unlocked she'll be in Seat 1 opposite Bruenor, ready to jump into the formation and start training!

III. Ezmerelda's Abilities

Basic Attack

  • Fire Bolt - Ezmerelda hurls a mote of fire at a random enemy.

Formation Abilities

  • Training Montage - Ezmerelda marks enemies that she attacks, training other Champions to spot their vulnerable points. Marked enemies take 50% more damage from all Champions for each Debuff Champion in the formation, stacking multiplicatively.
  • Preparation - Every time a debuff is applied to an enemy, the effect of Training Montage is increased by 10%, stacking multiplicatively, up to 100 times and resetting when changing areas.
  • Threat Tracking - Undead are Ezmerelda's favored foes. Ezmerelda tracks the favored foes that any Champion kills while she is in the formation, increasing the base effect of Training Montage by 0.025% for each favored foe killed (additively then multiplicatively). These stacks persist for the entire adventure, resetting when you complete it. Caps at 100,000 favored foe kills.
  • Enemies In The Mist - While Ezmerelda is in the formation, 0-2 "Mist" enemies can spawn with each wave. When a "Mist" enemy is defeated, an enemy whose type matches one of Ezmerelda's favored foe appears from the mist, and all nearby enemies gain the Training Montage debuff.

Specializations

  • We've Trained For This - All champions deal 100% more damage against enemies with armor-based health, increasing their chance of breaking an armor piece. Additionally, if a hits-based or armor-based enemy is affected by Training Montage, successful hits against them remove an additional hit or armor piece.
  • Vampire Hunter - The effect of Training Montage is increased by 400% on enemies who are one of Ezmerelda's favored foes, and Threat Tracking counts each favored foe killed twice.
  • The Devil You Know - Increase the effect of Training Montage by 100%. The effect is doubled during Strahd patron variants.

Ultimate Ability

  • My Signal - Ezmerelda reveals a magical sun dagger and launches it at the enemy with the highest health (randomly if tied). The dagger lands in the target dealing ultimate damage, and then remains there as it begins to glow with a burst of radiant energy, creating a new debuff that lasts 10 seconds. The debuff increases the damage done to the enemy by 25% for each stack of Preparation currently active, stacking multiplicatively.

V. Ezmerelda's Achievement and Adventure Variants

Achievement:

  • You Are Adequately Prepared - Use Ezmerelda's ultimate ability with a cumulative total of 2,500 active Preparation stacks. This count persists through adventures.

Adventure Variants:

The Devil's Scourge - Strahd von Zarovich sent his Zombies to follow Ezmerelda from Barovia.
  • Strahd Zombies appear in each wave and deal 100% additional damage. They do not drop gold, nor do they count towards quest progress.
  • Area Goals:
    • Tier 1: Complete Area 75.
    • Tier 2: Complete Area 250.
    • Tier 3: Complete Area 600.
    • Tier 4: Complete Area 1200.

The Devil Knocks - The mists of Ravenloft encroach upon us, making it harder for the Champions to see.
  • Enemies move 100% faster and drop 99% less gold.
  • Area Goals:
    • Tier 1: Complete Area 125.
    • Tier 2: Complete Area 350.
    • Tier 3: Complete Area 800.
    • Tier 4: Complete Area 1400.

The Devil You Know - This time Strahd sent his vampire spawn to follow Ezmerelda.
  • Vampire Spawn appear in each wave and deal 100% additional damage. They do not drop gold, nor do they count towards quest progress.
  • Ezmerelda starts in the formation and cannot be moved. Only Champions in Ezmerelda's column can deal damage. All other Champions have their DPS disabled, but their formation abilities are active.
  • You may only use Champions with a melee base attack.
  • Area Goals:
    • Tier 1: Complete Area 175.
    • Tier 2: Complete Area 450.
    • Tier 3: Complete Area 1000.
    • Tier 4: Complete Area 1600.

VI. Conclusion

Strahd and his undead don't stand a chance against Ezmerelda's debuffs! Let us know about your triumphs in the mist:

Idle Champions: Liar's Night 7

    "It was 'A Masked Man', apparently."
    "What a jerk. I hope they catch him."
The local Liar's Night festivities at the Wayside Inn were interrupted by a masked thief! They stole magical items and escaped, and now it's up to the Champions to stop them!

Liar's Night 7 introduces Thellora, the Centaur Paladin featured in Idle Champions Presents: Fatebreaker! This event also brings back Kent, the Tiefling Rogue from Rivals of Waterdeep, as well as Brig Hellclaw, the Rogue/Bard played by Jason Charles Miller! Players have until Monday, October 30th at 12 PM Pacific to complete their Liars' Night 7 unlocks and objectives.

New Champion: Thellora



    Thellora belongs to an all-female regiment known as the Luma. These fifty-three centaurs are diverse, but unified in that each possesses a distinctive golden right eye. The centaurs believe these individuals are chosen by their god, Callessa, to be devoted guardians and trained warriors. With their divine connection and martial prowess, they protect their land, embracing their unique gifts with unwavering dedication.

Thellora is a Support, Tanking, and Speed Champion who will charge her way through your next adventure! She boosts the damage of champions behind her and bolsters their health like a true tank, and these boosts increase when she is unable to finish off her foe. The choice you make with which feats you assign is particularly important, as her feats also affect her adjacent allies! Once unlocked, she takes her place in Slot 1 next to Bruenor.

Year Seven Variants


By the Light of Tura! - Chase down a masked man who has performed a daring heist with Thellora!
  • Thellora starts in the formation. (Slot 1) She can't be moved or removed.
  • Only Thellora and Champions in the column behind her can deal damage.
  • Getting to know Thellora: Thellora increases the damage of Champions in the column behind her.
  • Reach Area 75.

Allies of the Sky Cents - Chase down a masked man who has performed a daring heist with Thellora's favorite companions.
  • Thellora starts in the formation. (Slot 1) She can't be moved or removed.
  • You may only use Champions with a STR of 12 or less, Female/Non-Binary Champions, or Speed champions.
  • Getting to know Thellora: Thellora's specialization gives a secondary boost to certain types of Champions. Choose the best option for your formation!
  • Reach Area 125.

No One Trick Pony - Chase down a masked man who has performed a daring heist while fighting extra reinforcements!
  • Thellora starts in the formation. (Slot 1) She can't be moved or removed.
  • For the first ten areas, non-boss quest requirements are multiplied by 10!
  • With every non-boss enemy wave, a Fire Elemental spawns with 10 armored hit points. This enemy does not drop gold or count toward quest progress.
  • Getting to know Thellora: Thellora has the ability to rush through early areas if you've charged her up in previous runs. Get her Rush stacks to 10 and your favor for the event above 10 billion (1e10) and leap through these difficult areas!
  • Reach Area 175.

Idle Champions: Liar's Night 6

The local Liars' Night festivities at the Wayside Inn were interrupted by a masked thief! They stole magical items and escaped, and now it's up to the Champions to stop them!

Liars' Night 6 introduces Kent, the Tiefling Rogue from Rivals of Waterdeep! This event also brings back Brig Hellclaw, the Rogue/Bard played by Jason Charles Miller, and Ezmerelda d'Avenir, a prolific vampire hunter from the land of Barovia! Players have until Monday, October 31st at 12 PM Pacific to complete their Liars' Night 6 unlocks and objectives.

New Champion: Kent

Dungeons & Dragons Kent Eugenio

    Kent is a former archaeologist turned adventurer whose Rogue skills and powers over death were honed by spending months making his way through the temple of Talona, where the rest of his archaeological research team was killed by traps and monsters. When he finally returned home to the lakeside town of Caradoon, he was the same outgoing, flamboyant Tiefling he had always been, but now it seemed to mask a darkness that Kent has since done his best to keep hidden. Fortunately for him, he doesn't have to bear the darkness alone, because not long after his return to Caradoon, he met smart, capable, and patient Aasimar named Virgil. Together they met up with Selise from the Rivals, and joined her and the rest of the crew in Waterdeep.

Kent is a support and DPS Champion who collects soul trinkets representing the highest level boss defeated in each campaign, which he uses to buff himself and Champions in his column. In addition, he increases the effectiveness of your achievement bonuses for the adventure he is on. Once unlocked, you can find this tiefling rogue with Jarlaxle in Slot 4.

Year Six Variants


  • Bossing Around - Chase down a masked man while fighting tougher bosses. Kent begins in the formation and can be moved but not removed. There's an additional wave of enemies in each boss area, and the bosses have 3 times the health and deal 3 times the damage!
    Complete Area 75.

  • Quick and Quick-Witted - Chase down a masked man with your quickest champions. Kent begins in the formation and can be moved but not removed. You can only use Champions with a Dexterity and Charisma of 13 or higher, or members of the Rivals of Waterdeep!
    Reach Area 125.

  • The Poisoned Rat Incident - Chase down a masked man while fighting a bunch of giant rats. Kent begins in the formation and can be moved but not removed. Each wave spawns Giant Rats that don't drop gold or count toward quest progress. The first time an enemy is hit by a normal attack, they only take 1 point of damage.
    Reach Area 175.

Idle Champions: Liar's Night 5

The local Liar's Night festivities at the Wayside Inn were interrupted by a masked thief! They stole magical items and escaped, and now it's up to the Champions to stop them!

Liar's Night 5 introduces Brig Hellclaw, the Rogue/Bard, played by Jason Charles Miller who you can see as Brig on Idle Champions Presents the Trials of Mount Tiamat, airing Mondays at 4PM Pacific on the CNEGames Twitch. You can also catch him on Bardic Inspiration Tuesdays at 1PM Pacific also on the CNEGames Twitch.

This event also brings back the prolific vampire hunter, Ezmerelda d'Avenir, and the the Half-Elf Warlock/Sorcerer trickster, Avren. Players have until Monday, November 1st at 12PM Pacific to complete your Liar's Night 5 unlocks and objectives.

New Champion: Brig Hellclaw

Dungeons & Dragons Brig Hellclaw

    Harbinger of mayhem and music, Brig Hellclaw causes mischief anywhere he goes. As a member of The Sirens of the Realms, he's always on the lookout for the next place to perform. He prefers singing over combat, but when fighting is inevitable, he's all in! Together with his Almiraj pet Spikey, when Brig's on the loose you never know what to expect! His trusty wand of wonder could bring a curse or a boon, but it's all in another day's work for Brig!


A Rogue, a Bard, and a Support Champion, Brig is best right in the thick of it, surrounded by allies fighting enemies. When you want to add him to your formation, you can swap him with Nayeli (Slot 3)

III. Brig's Design


It's been amazing to work with Jason Charles Miller on Bardic Inspiration, who has more than two decades of professional experience in music and voice acting. He has received two Gold Record Awards, one for his Godhead song “Penetrate” featured in Queen of the Damned, and another for “The End Has Come” featured in The Punisher movie. You can hear his brilliant composing skills and dulcet tones on Bardic Inspiration Vol 1, available for free to listen to in the in-game jukebox as well as purchase and download on Steam and Epic! And now to add his character as a Champion in our game has been especially wonderful!

Brig is the perfect addition to any bardic performance, buffing everyone in the formation with his Hype and playing a Rallying Chord to keep the energy high. While he's an amazing back up singer, when he has a chance to Solo you know he'll bring the house down!

Year Five Variants


  • Variant 1: Dueling Bards — Brig starts in the formation. He can be moved, but not removed. In each area, a duergar bard appears. The bard can only be damaged by other bards. Bard Champions deal 100% additional damage.
    Getting to know Brig Hellclaw: Brig wants to maximize his hype stacks. Keep him surrounded by other Champions that are dealing more damage to maximize his hype stacks from his Inspired Bard ability.
    Complete Area 75.

  • Variant 2: Discordant Melodies — A goblin bard joins the formation attempting to try out for the Champions, but they practiced the wrong song! Whenever they play their instrument, each Champion adjacent to them has a 50% chance to be stunned for 2 seconds. Enemies deal 200% additional damage. Gold Find and Champion Damage are reduced by 99%.
    Getting to know Brig Hellclaw: If Brig is one of your higher damage dealers, choose his Cream of the Crop Specialization. If not, choose 'Back'-Up Singer and place him in the rear of your formation to maximize his hype stacks!
    Complete Area 125.

  • Variant 3: Musical Accompaniment — An elf bard appears in each area with the Masked Man. Until the elf bard is destroyed, the Masked Man is invulnerable. Every time the elf bard attacks, the damage of the Masked Man is increased by 100%.
    Getting to know Brig Hellclaw:Brig's Critical Moment ability helps turn up the volume when you're at your wall, or in a boss area. Make sure he's ready to play when the Masked Man arrives!
    Complete Area 175.



  • IV. New DLC

    Also launching with Liars' Night 5 is the Ascendant Brig Theme Pack! This pack includes the new Ascendant Brig Hellclaw Skin, the Spiky the Almiraj familiar, Big's Epic Road Gig Feat, which increases Hype by 80%, 1 Epic Potion of the Gold Hunter, and 16 Gold Brig Chests with 2 Guaranteed Shiny Equipment Cards.

New Champion: Ezmerelda d'Avenir

Ezmerelda's Bio

    Ezmerelda d'Avenir, a Vistana monster hunter, has devoted herself to ridding the world of evil in all of its forms. After years of tutelage by her mentor, the vampire hunter Rudolph van Richten, Ezmerelda struck out on her own. She has since amassed a sizable personal fortune and an impressive arsenal of weapons for hunting monsters. Following the defeat of Strahd von Zarovich, Ezmerelda joins the Champions on their journeys through the world of Toril.

Ezmerelda's Formation Abilities

A renowned vampire hunter from the land of Barovia, Ezmerelda is a Support Champion. She's a master fighter and uses debuffs to her advantage, culminating in her ultimate attack with a sun dagger to create a strong short-lived massive debuff for a devastating final team attack.

Ezmerelda has three different debuffs that she bestows on enemies as she's training the Champions in her martial & magical style. Her debuffs are based on her skills as a vampire hunter and are named for moments during her training: Pause, Prepare, & Parry.

In addition to her training the Champions, she also brings a wealth of knowledge against the undead, as illustrated in her The Devil's Playthings ability. Always training, Ezmerelda's Threat Tracking ability has her continuing to learn from her enemies in this new land. Both Threat Tracking and The Devil's Playthings start as undead based but can be changed to humanoid, fiends, or monstrosities with a specialization.

    This adventure has unique dialogue.
