Idle Champion Spotlight: Reya Mantlemorn
Posted in Idle Champions.

We met Reya earlier in our Descent into Avernus campaign and she joined the Champions following the apparent destruction of Elturel. She swore to remain with the defenders of the city, but the Blood War took its toll on her. She was asked to face one more trial, to sacrifice herself to become a Celestial, the Avatar of Zariel. You can unlock Reya Mantlemorn by completing the Reya Reborn variant of the Idyllglen adventure.

Read on to learn more about our latest Evergreen Champion.

I. Reya Mantlemorn

Born in the land of Turmish, Reya came to the holy city of Elturel to train as a Hellrider when she was twelve. As a faithful follower of Torm, Reya trained to sacrifice herself for the greater good. That preparation led to her taking Zariel's sword and joining the Champions, after rescuing the city of Elturel from Avernus.

Reya powers up Champions adjacent to her with her Searing Radiance. You can power up that ability by increasing Champions who are Lawful and/or Good in the formation. When you want to add Reya to your formation, you can swap her with Asharra (Slot 6).

II. Reya's Stats

Race: Human/Celestial Alignment: Lawful Good
Class: Paladin Gender: Female
Age: 19 Affiliation: none

STR: 18 DEX: 12 CON: 14
INT: 13 WIS: 11 CHA: 20

Role: Support

Eligible for Patrons: Mirt the Moneylender, Vajra Safahr, Strahd von Zarovich, Zariel

Slot: 6, (Asharra)

III. Reya's Design

Born in the land of Turmish, but came to the city of Elturel when she was twelve so that she could train as a Hellrider. She was away from the city when Elturel was transported to Avernus, but always stayed true to the Creed Absolute and remained devoted to Elturel and its people. As the lone Hellrider who could truly defend her city, Reya takes up the Sword of Zariel, losing her former self to become the Avatar of Zariel, imbued with celestial power.

As a Lawful Good Celestial and the Avatar of Zariel, Reya often communes with Zariel and attracts her gaze with Echoes of Zariel boosting other Lawful, Good, and especially Lawful Good Champions in the formation. Without bringing the gaze of Zariel upon her enemies, Reya supports adjacent Champions with her Searing Radiance, due to her experience in the Blood War, this ability is especially powerful against fiends.

IV. Reya's Abilities

Basic Attack

  • Sword of Zariel — Reya leaps out and slashes at random enemy with the Sword of Zariel, cleaving all other enemies nearby as well.

Formation Abilities

  • Searing Radiance — Reya imbues adjacent Champions with her Searing Radiance, causing their attacks to deal 100% more damage. This effect is doubled against fiends. Can be buffed by upgrades, feats, and equipment.
  • Echoes of Zariel — The gaze of Zariel turns from Reya and sweeps across the formation, looking at random Champions before returning to Reya. It has an equal chance of looking at any Champion in the formation (including returning to Reya) but won't look at the same Champion twice without having returned to Reya first. Once it returns to Reya it increases the effect of Searing Radiance by 100% for each Champion it looked at, including Reya, stacking multiplicatively. Gaze moves every 5 seconds. Buff lasts until the gaze returns to Reya again. Can be buffed by upgrades, feats, and equipment.
  • Celestial Champion — All Lawful Good aligned Champions' damage is increased by 100%. Can be buffed by upgrades, feats, and equipment..

Specializations

  • Champions of Good — The gaze of Zariel focuses on Good aligned Champions. Echoes of Zariel is guaranteed to look at all Good aligned Champions in the formation before returning to Reya (though may also look at non-Good aligned Champions using its normal mechanics). This guarantees a minimum number of stacks on the Echoes of Zariel effect.
  • Champions of Law — The gaze of Zariel focuses on Lawful aligned Champions. Echoes of Zariel is guaranteed to look at all Lawful aligned Champions in the formation before returning to Reya (though may also look at non-Lawful aligned Champions using its normal mechanics). This guarantees a minimum number of stacks on the Echoes of Zariel effect.

Ultimate Ability

  • Avatar of Zariel — Reya launches to the sky, flying off of the top of the screen. She lands by SLAMMING the Sword of Zariel into the ground with a shockwave, summoning Zariel and her friend Lulu. While Reya communes with Zariel, Lulu zips around the board, putting all enemies to sleep for 10 seconds. While the enemies are asleep and reya remains in her pose, the Champions deal massive damage against them. When the 10 seconds is complete, Reya removes the sword and swings it in a massive circle.

V. Reya's Epic Equipment

Slot 1: Global DPS
Slot 2: Global DPS
Slot 3: Searing Radiance
Slot 4: Echoes of Zariel
Slot 5: Celestial Champions
Slot 6: Ultimate Cooldown

VI. Conclusion

We are awed Reya has taken up the Sword of Zariel and is joining Idle Champions roster as our latest Evergreen and we are excited to see how well she fits into the meta. If you have feedback, let us know in a Community Q&A or Champion feedback post on the Idle Champions Subreddit, on the Steam forums, or on the Official Idle Champions Discord!

This year's event runs until Tuesday, April 6th at 12PM PDT, introducing Marzimallow, the Delicious and bringing back Dr. Almquist, Tusk Specialist, Bridget the Painter, Biff the Magic Rabbit, Baenarall, Angel of Hope, Sisaron the Dragon Sorceress, Alan the ArchAngel, and RoboRabbit!

New Tier 6 Crusader: Marzimallow, the Delicious

Tags: Event, Gold, Support, Magical, Good, Nonbinary, Supernatural, Dragon

From the sugary depths of creation arises a creature of magical wonder. Marzimallow looks sweet, and they are! Ruler of your yummiest dreams (and dentists' nightmares), this dragon, assembled of some of the best confectionery treats, is ready to help your crew by buffing their magical friends and adding some more gold (and candy) to their scrumptious hoard.

Marzimallow, the Delicious is a Support Crusader. When you want to add them to your formation, you can find them in slot 29.

New Tier 6 Objectives

  • Recruit Marzimallow | Marzimallow takes up a slot in the formation. Alan the Archangel and RoboRabbit take up spots in the formation and can't be moved. Marzimallow disables the upgrades of Crusaders in either the odd number formation slots or the even number formation slots, changing every 50 areas. Note: This will require having cleared the objective To Infinity and Beyond on Ghostbeard's Greed to complete. Reach area 600.

  • Spirits Among Us | Baenarall, Angel of Hope, and Sisaron, the Dragon Sorceress take up spots in formation and can't be moved. Only Angel or Dragon Crusaders can be used. Note: This will require having cleared the objective To Infinity and Beyond on Ghostbeard's Greed to complete. Reach area 650.

  • Eat Your Carrots | Biff the Magic Rabbit takes up a spot in formation and can't be moved. Biff's carrot is the only thing that hurts enemies. The formation has been changed. Monsters spawn in larger waves. Note: This will require having cleared the objective To Infinity and Beyond on Ghostbeard's Greed to complete. Reach area 675.

  • Shards of Dawn | Bridget the Painter takes up a spot in formation and can't be moved. Only Crusaders with 750 personal EP or more can be used. Two rays of light beam down on random spots in the formation, allowing those spots to do DPS. Rays move every 50 areas. A crystal takes up a spot in the formation. Flame monsters spawn randomly. Crystal provides a 10% DPS buff per flame killed, stacking additively. Note: This will require having cleared the objective Bullet Hell on Ready Player Two to complete. Reach area 700.

  • Unhealthy Teeth | Dr. Almquist, Tusk Specialist takes up a spot in formation and can't be moved. Teeth rain from the sky every 10 seconds and randomly disable 1 Crusader for 15 seconds. For every 1 million teeth Almquist has collected with his Wisdom Extraction ability, the objective grants a 1000% DPS All increase, stacking multiplicatively. Note: This will require having cleared the objective Bullet Hell on Ready Player Two to complete. Reach area 725.

You'll have until Tuesday, April 6th at 12:00 PM Pacific Time to complete Nate's Candy Conundrum 6!

Idle Champions: Bardic Inspiration Vol 1
Posted in Idle Champions.

Announcing: Bardic Inspiration Vol.1

It's been incredibly difficult to contain our excitement these last few weeks!

It might not seem like it, but Bardic Inspiration has been around since last summer, with our first episode about Bruenor Battlehammer back in June 2020. If you had told us nine months ago that we would eventually record some of these songs in a studio and release them to the public, we wouldn't have believed you!

Allow us to finally and officially announce that Bardic Inspiration Vol.1 arrives with the Spring Extravaganza on Wednesday, March 31st as DLC on Steam!

Bardic Inspiration Vol.1 features eight original songs composed by Jason Charles Miller and Dylan Wilks during the first twenty episodes of Bardic Inspiration, which were recorded at Central Command Studios in Los Angeles over the winter.

Starting with "The Greatest Dwarven King," the anthem for Bruenor Battlehammer written during the very first episode, Bardic Inspiration Vol.1 includes a diverse selection of musical genres, including classic rock, goth/alternative, punk, country, heavy metal, swing, folk, and even a pop song for Tiamat, Queen of Evil Dragonkind. In addition to these eight studio-quality songs, there are also eight corresponding Instrumental versions for those who prefer their music without vocals. The full tracklist and production credits are below.

And that's not all: all 16 tracks are coming to Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms! Players have been asking us to expand the soundtrack for Idle Champions for years; starting on March 31, players will be able to select their favorite Bardic Inspiration tracks from Bardic Inspiration Vol.1 to play during their adventures with the new in-game music player.

Anyone interested in hearing studio-quality recordings of the songs will be able to purchase the Bardic Inspiration Vol.1 DLC through the Idle Champions Steam Store page as of March 31 and download MP3s and FLAC files of each track. Everyone else will be able to listen to the soundtrack for free in-game. Of course, we encourage you to purchase the DLC; if we can sell enough of them, this kind of project might be able to happen again ;)

How far would you go to celebrate foolishness?

Idle Champion Spotlight: Alyndra Sarrbarand
Posted in Idle Champions.

"I Have Foreseen This Moment..." the serene elf said evaluating the infinite possibilities of all possible futures."Remember my friends, you are blessed."

Alyndra Sarrbarand joins her companions Avren, Penelope, Freely, and Briv Steelmarrow from D&D Beyond's Silver & Steel & Beyond Heroes, and now Heroes of the Planes, and is delighted to meet the aquaintance of her new companions on the Idle Champions roster, with Festival of Fools 4.

Working with Jen to bring Alyndra to Idle Champions was an absolute delight to capture the essence of Alyndra and bring the most authentic representation of her to Idle Champions. She is accompanied by her two familiars, Griff and Grant, the Baby Blue Dragon. We are deeply touched that Jen would think of us to honor Grant's legacy and we are privileged to work with her and the Grant Imahara STEAM Foundation.

It's time for the latest Idle Champion Spotlight.

I. Lorekeeper of Rime Spiro, Kinscribe of Clan Monkeymouse

III. Alyndra's Design

We were thrilled to work with Jen Kretchmer, a producer, writer, actor, streamer and disability advocate. You may recognize her from Beyond Heroes, Silver & Steel, and forthcoming Heroes of the Planes, and we are thrilled to announce that not only is Alyndra joining Idle Champions, but Jen Kretchmer will be playing her as a member of the cast of Idle Champions Presents: A Fool's Errand.

A Divination Wizard, Alyndra buffs adjacent Champions with her Portent ability guiding their attacks and increasing their damage. This ability is heightened when the adjacent Champion is one of Alyndra's adventuring companions of the Heroes of the Planes affiliation. Griff, Alyndra's very judgy owl familiar, is never far from her side and marks unworthy enemies for her when she's unsure if it's a cultural misunderstanding. Her equipment is made up of wonderful ties to her past and future, and the close relationship she shares with her adventuring companions, and of course, Logic and Reason, her sword and spellbook-mace, respectively.

IV. Alyndra's Abilities

Basic Attack

  • Mind Spike — Alyndra reaches into the mind of a random enemy, dealing damage and slowing the enemy by 50% for 3 seconds.

Formation Abilities

  • Portent — Every 30 seconds, Alyndra randomly chooses (up to) two adjacent Champions and peers into their futures, helping guide their attacks and increasing their damage by 100%.
  • Heroes of the Planes — If Portent is applied to a Champion under the effect of certain Heroes of the Planes Champions' abilities, those effects are increased in power:
    • Avren — Mirror Image effects on the Portented Champion +100%.
    • Freely — Unlucky For Them +100% for each Portented Champion affected by Luck of Yondalla(stacking multiplicatively).
    • Penelope — Chwinga Mask: Tools for the Job Charm +100% for each Portented Champion affected by Chwinga Mask (stacking multiplicatively).
    • Orkira — Orkira will be receiving his Heroes of the Planes buff in a later update.
    • Briv — Briv will be receiving his Heroes of the Planes affiliation and buff in a later update.
  • Brows of Judgement — Griff, Alyndra's owl companion, sits on Alyndra's shoulder and judges enemies as they spawn. They have a 25% chance to judge normal enemies as unworthy, and a 100% chance to judge bosses as unworthy. For each living unworthy normal enemy, Portent's base buff is increased by 100%, stacking additively. Each living boss increases Portent's base buff by 400%. Unworthy enemies have an overlay that counts as a debuff for the purposes of Alyndra's ultimate but has no other effect.

Specializations

  • Expansive Vision — Portent now applies to 3 random adjacent Champions instead of 2.
  • Extra Judgy — Double Griff's chance to judge enemies as unworthy with Brows of Judgement, and increases the buff by 100% as well.

Ultimate Ability

  • I Have Foreseen This — Alyndra slips into a trance and foresees the death of all the formation's enemies. For the next 30 seconds, all enemies (regardless of whether or not they spawn after the Ultimate starts) take extra damage equal to the total Portent buff being given (cumulatively).

V. Alyndra's Epic Equipment

Slot 1: Global DPS
Slot 2: Global DPS
Slot 3: Portent
Slot 4: Heroes of the Planes
Slot 5: Brows of Judgement
Slot 6: Ultimate Cooldown

Episode 1

In the seaside port town of Echo Bay, five epic heroes arrive with invitations to a party. Orisha, Havilar, Baeloth, Melf, and the Black Viper have traveled to enjoy the Fleetswake festivities with their friend Freely. However, the party is put on hold as Freely has agreed to help a local merchant whose ship, the Muskrat, has gone missing. A local fisher confirms the ship was seen five days ago heading for the docks, but never arrived. Despite the festival, the locals are nervous and are avoiding the water.

Before they can do any more a loud bell rings out, and the whole town heads to one of the main events of the festival, a crab battle between Pumpkinhead versus Walnut! Orisha’s eyes suddenly glow and a strange voice emanates from her throat as an announcement is made that something has gone wrong. But the voice tells the heroes if they will fix what is wrong they will “forget their names”. Just as quickly as the voice came it is gone, as is their memories of it.

Suddenly a swarm of demonic geese attack the crowd, but before they can harm any innocents the heroes dispatch them with relative ease. These creatures were not actually from the abyss but had been poisoned and transformed. Asking around the town to find out more about these strange developments, our Champions discover a number of disturbing incidents over the past two months have many people on edge; fishing boats have been attacked by sharks, and many capable swimmers and dock workers have been injured or nearly drowned. Many are suspicious of the new mage high priest to Umberlee named Mistress Hoistsail. After Orisha crafts and sings a song to Umberlee to magically open the door to the one-room shrine, they head inside to question a group of worshippers, but the leader of the cultists transforms into a wereshark and attacks! While it gets a bite out of Baeloth, it’s shocked and stabbed to death!

Episode 2

As the fight with the cultists comes to a close a chaotic attack from Baeloth destroys the altar, and our Champions notice it was funneling magic from somewhere else in the caves. As they loot the bodies they find a journal and a magic key on the late cultist turned wereshark, learning these are fanatics who have come to Echo Bay to serve the will of Mistress Hoistsail. Heading back outside they discover both Freely and Havilar’s hound Zoonie are missing, but Bubbles the Hollyphant and Freely’s parrot TreAvor are there. Bubbles offers to help the group, first healing Baeloth and Black Viper and then giving Havilar the ability to speak to animals. TreAvor relays that eight pirates kidnapped Freely as he defended Zoonie and told her to run. Havilar summons her Imps and sends them off to look for Zoonie, and inspired by the idea Baeloth summons his Djinn servant Najim to create pirate outfits for the entire party.

Back in town, the party matches the key they looted to a warehouse marked by the same flying frog symbol. It’s been empty since its owner, Galid Tanter, drowned two months ago. Her death was the first of the strange incidents that have the townsfolk on edge. As they take a moment to catch up with Iris, Melf hears a whispered voice from the shadows trying to warn him of danger, but the voice is gone before he can make out the whole message. They find the warehouse on the edge of town, and while it’s supposed to be abandoned Black Viper notices that the lock has been recently oiled, indicating there’s been recent activity. Inside is mostly empty but a suspicious tapestry hides a secret passage to a back area with a massive chest, and Melf notices a magical aura coming from it. Stacks of bloodstained paperwork nearby are ships manifest including one for The Muskrat, and all the vessels were carrying spell components for very heavy conjuration magic.

Opening the chest they discover a pair of disgusting gibbering mouthers! Their horrific noises and gnashing teeth stun and disorient the heroes, and one almost manages to eat Melf! But eventually, they destroy the creatures and discover a practically brand new ladder leading deep into darkness. But having taken a lot of damage and being exhausted from the day, Havilar leaves one of her imps to guard the ladder and the group takes a well-deserved long rest.

Episode 3

The next morning while the group discusses how they want to proceed, Orisha is suddenly overtaken with a spirit. The creepy voice of the ethereal being gives much valuable advice, including a warning that time is of the essence but that there is no reasoning with the fanatics. Bubbles the holyphant reappears and promises to help, but instead curses the team to speak only in rhyme! Before the issue can be fixed Bubbles disappears again, leaving the team speaking in verse as they head down into the cave where they hope to find Zoonie, Freely, and answers.

After a perilous slide and past a dual trap, they are greeted by an acquaintance of Baeloth’s who also happens to be a member of the Bregan D’aerthe. Our Champions continue on their path and arrive at a broad sea cave with an ancient dock where wrecks of the missing ships are found. The dock and ships are covered with ghostly forms, and the deck of the ship has strong conjuration magic that is increasing in intensity.

Knowing they are short on time the team rush in. Orisha is snatched on the shore and yanked into the water by a furious sahuagin. As more sahuagin and sharks join the fight, Baeloth summons Najim to rescue Orisha. Not only does the Djinn save the aasimar but he removes the rhyming curse, but now they must speak like pirates! Fortunately, the Bregan D’aerthe shows up and destroys the underwater enemies with torpedoes, but the ghost ship suddenly disembarks and heads for the mouth of the sea cave.

Everyone scrambles onto the ship, and as they get into the hold they can hear chanting coming deep in the ship. A gruesome scene is discovered, and Mistress Hoistsail has Freely and Zoonie in a conjuring circle, in order to call forth a monstrous semi-translucent kraken!

Orisha sets the bodies on fire as Havilar pulls her unconscious friends out of the ritual circle. All of this disrupts the magic, weakening and delaying the full appearance of the kraken. Orisha, Havilar, and Black Viper engage the kraken on the deck while Baeloth attacks Mistress Hoistsail, and Melf casts dispel magic several times to get rid of the magic on the ship. Hoistsail is defeated, and after an epic battle, Baeloth is able to banish the kraken back to its plane. The Bregan D’aerthe show up to rescue the heroes from the sinking ship, and once again the Sword Coast is saved!
